SBAC Info & Elections at PTSA Meeting 4/20

Dimmitt PTSA is hosting a meeting on Wednesday, April 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the Dimmitt Library.  The focus of the meeting will be:
  1. State Standardized Testing – the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC).  Michele Murphy, one of Dimmitt’s Assistant Principals, will go through the test schedule, the tests that each grade level will be taking, what test questions look like, and  how to do practice tests at home.  This is timely, valuable information as testing begins April 25th!
  2. Voting in an Executive Committee for the 2016-2017 school year.  We need at least 10 members to attend to achieve quorum, required for voting.  So far, we have the following nominations:
    • Secretary – Tina Wyche
    • Treasurer – Gina Dahlman
    • Nominations are still being accepted for President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.   Please email us at if you have questions about the responsibilities and training for any position and are willing to be nominated.  It’s fun to work together for the good of our school community, and it’s not a huge time commitment.
We hope you will join us!

Meeting 3/23 – Elections & More!

We invite you all to our general PTSA meeting this coming Wednesday, March 23rd at 7 p.m. in the Dimmitt Library.  We need at least 10 members to attend so we can vote in an Executive Committee for the 2016-2017 school year.
The meeting agenda includes:
  • Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6)
  • Clothes for the Cause Fundraiser (May)
  • Dimmitt Community Showcase (May 12)
  • Carnival (June)
  • Election of Executive Committee
Speaking of a new Executive Committee, we have one nomination; Tina Wyche served as Secretary this past year and is willing to be nominated again.  We are accepting nominations for all positions:
  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
Without an Executive Committee, our chapter cannot remain in good standing.  This year, we earned a Gold Level Membership Award with 51 members.  It would be a shame to lose momentum!  Our current Vice President and Treasurer graciously served this year even though their students no longer attend Dimmitt, and our President’s student will be at the high school next year.  We hope you will consider stepping up to a leadership role.  Please email us at if you have questions about the responsibilities and training for any position and are willing to be nominated.  It’s fun to work together for the good of our school community, and it’s not a huge time commitment!

Founders’ Day Dinner & Auction

Renton Council PTSA sponsors an annual dinner and auction that raises scholarship money for seniors in our four high schools.  There are two ways we encourage you to participate:
  1. Contribute to the Dimmitt PTSA auction basket.  PTAs from every school in Renton contribute a basket for the auction.  Our chapter’s theme is “I Like It!” and we can incorporate just about anything you want to donate!  If you would rather make a financial donation, we can shop for basket items.  Please sign up by March 11th using this link to VolunteerSpot –, or email PTSA at  Tax-deductible donations forms are available.
  2. Join us at the Dinner & Auction!  The more from Dimmitt, the merrier!  It takes place Friday April 1st from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Renton Pavilion & Event Center and includes a dinner buffet and no-host bar.  The fun event theme is “Men (and Women) in Black;” attire is casual to dressy in black or white, sunglasses optional :)  Tickets are $35, but our chapter will subsidize the price if we can get everything donated for the basket!  The subsidy amount depends on how many people attend with us.  Please sign-up by March 23rd using this link to VolunteerSpot –, or email PTSA at

  4. Dimmitt is looking for parent representatives to serve on the District 24 Credit Graduation Requirement Committee.  We are specifically looking for parents of 7th grade students.  The goal of the committee is to fully understand the implications of the new graduation requirements and to make recommendations to the Cabinet and School Board for the changes needed to ensure that our students are able to graduate on time and are career and college ready.  Please read the details below.  If you are interested in serving on the committee please email Principal Tracy Dyer before Friday, October 16, 2015.
The dates that have been set for this expanded committee are below. We have purposefully set more dates than we anticipate the whole group needing, to reserve time for possible subgroup work.  All meetings will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm in the board room at KEC.
